It’s Not There Anymore

It’s Not There Anymore

Tear me open, shred my skin;

Crack my ribs, and reach inside my hollow body.

Your hands grasp at the empty spaces,

demanding for my heart.

My darkened eyes look straight ahead.

“It’s not there anymore,” I say.

“Once someone pried it away,

Stole it from my chest.”

.

Your fingers halt and stroke my open flesh.

I close my eyes.

“He carried it with him until he saw no use.

He left it shattered on the ground.

It’s not there anymore.”
